BAYONET S98/05 WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM SOLINGEN WWI GERMANY
A great example of the S98/05 bayonet from the First World War used in the German army.
The set consists of a bayonet with a scabbard and a frog, an amazing set in a collector's condition. Bayonet manufactured by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie Solingen.
It has a nice blade with visible discoloration and the rest of the dried grease, there are no traces of grinding or other amateur cleaning methods. The wood and rivets show no signs of manipulation. Visible natural patina and military acceptance marks. The bayonet entered service in 1915. The bayonet lock is functional. Leather scabbard, in really great condition, most importantly it didn't shrink and the bayonet fits all the way into the scabbard. The stitches didn't come loose.
However, it must be taken into account that the lower scabbard fitting has been slightly polished and has lost some of its patina. The wire connecting the metal scabbard fitting with the scabbard is intact. Military mark visible on the upper fitting. The frog is also in definitely collector's condition, flexible.Made by the manufacturer Kern Kläger & Cie 1916 Neu Ulm.
And the second marking on the frog's skin, probably TB1916, but I may be wrong with the first letter because it is unclear.
To sum up, a nice WW1 set for good collections.
