Membership badge (civilian) of the Scharnhorst – Bund deutscher Jungmannen organization, dating from the Weimar Republic period (1920s), double-marked GES. GESCH.
Type: Civilian badge (German: Zivilabzeichen), most likely an early version of the 1st form. Appearance: Enameled shield in white and black with a cross motif (referring to Teutonic/Prussian traditions), topped with a royal crown with a small cross at the top. Made of gilded tombac or bronze.
Organization: Scharnhorst – Bund deutscher Jungmannen (Scharnhorst League of German Youth) was a nationalist and monarchist youth organization in Germany, named after the Prussian General Gerhard von Scharnhorst, an extension of the nationalist Stahlhelm organization, Bund der Frontsoldaten (Steel Helmet League of Front Soldiers). It operated strongly in the spirit of Prussian tradition and was incorporated into the Hitler Youth in 1933.
